What topics are covered in the program?

Speak & Share programs cover a range of important topics designed to promote mental health awareness, emotional wellbeing, and peer connection. Key themes include the meaning behind 'a problem shared is a problem halved,' the importance of open communication, and practical strategies for speaking up and supporting others.

Participants are guided through activities that help them practise how to speak and share in a safe and respectful way. They also engage in reflective exercises that encourage them to identify personal outlets and support networks they can rely on to maintain their mental health and wellbeing. Throughout the session, we explore who you can speak to, how to start these conversations, and why reaching out is a vital step in looking after yourself and others.

Are teachers allowed to sit in on the session?

Yes, we highly encourage teachers and wellbeing staff to be present, as their involvement can help reinforce key messages and provide ongoing support for students.

How do you manage participants that may react or be triggered by the content in the program?

At Speak and Share, creating a safe and supportive environment is our top priority. Prior to each session, we work closely with the school or organisation’s wellbeing team to gain an understanding of the group dynamic and any specific needs. This allows us to tailor our approach and ensure all participants feel supported.

Our facilitators are trained in Mental Health First Aid and are equipped to respond appropriately if a participant becomes distressed. We make it clear at the beginning of every session that participants are free to step out at any time if they feel overwhelmed, and that support will be readily available to them.

Do you provide resources for the participants?

Yes, we provide tailored resources to support participants beyond the session. For our secondary school, sporting club, and workplace programs, participants receive a take-home resource designed to reinforce key messages from the session. This includes guidance on how to start meaningful conversations, check in with peers, maintain positive mental health and wellbeing, and access recommended helpline services.

For our primary school program, each student is provided with a wellbeing journal. This age-appropriate resource encourages continued learning and reflection, helping young students build emotional regulation skills in a supportive and engaging way.

What qualifications do the facilitators have?

All of our facilitators have completed accredited Mental Health First Aid training, ensuring they are equipped to support participants in a safe and informed manner. The program itself was developed by our three founders, each of whom holds a teaching degree and brings extensive experience in education and student wellbeing.

Additionally, the program has been shaped with guidance from a psychologist holding a PhD, ensuring it is grounded in evidence-based practice. All facilitators undergo thorough training to ensure they engage with participants in a professional, respectful, and effective way.

How long do the sessions go for?

The Speak and Share program runs for approximately 60 minutes and is carefully designed to be both impactful and engaging. The session length allows us to deliver key messages effectively while maintaining participants’ attention and ensuring a meaningful experience.

How many people can participate in a session?

To ensure the effectiveness and impact of each session, we cap participation at 60 individuals for our secondary school, sporting club, and workplace programs, and 35 participants for our primary school sessions. This structure allows us to deliver content in a more engaging, activity-based format, fostering meaningful interaction and connection throughout the program.

What is the cost involved?

We offer a structured pricing model that takes into account the number of participants and the number of sessions required.
